This game was made for the O2A2 VN Jam 2024, a micro Visual Novel jam with strict asset limitations and a 1000 word limit.

While this visual novel has no age limit, please note that it contains themes of death and grief

Viewer discretion is advised.

This world has only one rule: kill or be killed. Only the strong should live on, while the weak should be discarded.

But who can truly determine who deserves one fate over another?

To protect themselves from savage beasts, humanity lives within mobile cities called the Arks. However, these creatures are not the only ones to be wary of, as people vie for power and control not only to ensure their survival against these beasts but also to dominate over their fellow humans.

Under The False Sky [IM]Pulse is a short story following the development of Tamara's and Felix's relationship, told through text messages and video chats.

Starting from the beginning of their mandatory training at the military academy, join the unit through all their ups and downs.

Get to know your teammates better through choices and let love blossom!

While this can be seen as a standalone and further knowledge of Under The False Sky's story isn't necessary, we still encourage you to check out the other entries within UTFS' universe.

You should be absolutely proud of the way this experience came together! It's seriously impressive to see in action! The music is lovely, Felix's voice is lovely - more matured but with that same childish edge to it - and the UI/presentation is superb, so very worth the effort in the end!

And MY HEART???? AAAAAAAAA- On the floor screaming crying now ;u;

im not kidding when I say that I said TWO FREAKING SECONDS BEFORE WE FIND OUT TAM DIED "If Felix or Tam dies I'm gonna cry." Excuse me, must go keep my promise of crying.

sorry...

oofffff  i had a bad feeling while playing and i was right😭

I NEED A LONGER VERSION OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

"wow this is such a cute phone simulation, we have friends, we have a bf, but for some reason, it's too wholesome for a story made by anna, where is the-AH"

That was overall my thought process during the game, I was waiting for the heartbreaking twist and OF COURSE IT CAME, it always does edfdsdfr

To give a full account of the game: first of all, I really liked the music, it was very immersive without being distracting, perfect for this game. Then, I also loved the art, Felix is looking gorgeous! And of course, I have  to salute the GUI GOODNESS ANNA YOU DIDN'T COOK YOU OPENED A RESTAURANT AT THIS POINT???????????? This was so immersive, it really felt like being on a phone! For a bug report, however, when I opened the "about" menu, the "return" button wouldn't work (but I played the web build, so maybe that's why).

For the writing, it was interesting: a sneak-peek at the whole UTFS universe, and yet, we get confronted with quite an important event. That's interesting because we know it is going to happen, but we don't know how yet: a bit like biblical prophecies, you know they are meant to happen, but God works in mysterious ways, so you don't know yet how they will happen. This makes me very excited for the deployment of the rest of the UTFS universe!

And of course, Felix was adorable, his interactions with Tamara so wholesome (if you don't count the last one of course)!

Congrats to all the team, it was an AMAZING O2A2 entry!!

This was such a fun format to interact with! The texting and video call aspect drew me in, but I was absolutely oblivious to the roller coaster ride I was signing into. I LOVED what we could glean from the story, and that just made the ending hit harder. I loved getting to know Felix (he's such a cutie!!!) and Tamara's colleagues! The voice actor did a phenomenal job, and the artstyle- just, wow. The sprites are absolutely GORGEOUS. Amazing work! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ï»

Hit me right where in the feels why don't'cha 😂 Fr the art is beautiful, the GUI slaps, and there's so much happening in just 1000 words? Like it's just... gorgeous. The VA is also superb and immersive and I loved the video calls, it just made it so... idk, real? Spectacular work!

It's so short but it's so heartbreaking 😭😭😭😭

WOW, this was such a beautiful entry!! So polished and I can tell a lot of love was put into this :D The GUI is so sleek and I really appreciated all the minute details. I love how beautiful and somber the music is (really matches the tone of the story), and the sprite work/voice acting is phenomenal! Loved witnessing a glimpse of the team dynamic here and even with the time skips everything fell into place contextually. Amazingggg work

Nuuuu :'(

oh man that ending :(((

Omg. I just played this and I was not expecting that ending. Wow.

I was literally pulling my hair back and shouting 'Oh My God!' over and over again.

This game got me feeling emotions I was not ready for in under 1000 words.

The artwork and voice acting are both awesome. But your writing really takes the cake.

The UI for this is so good, it's incredibly polished! You did an amazing job putting this all together so quickly! Love the song that plays too, and the voice acting is very good and high quality!

As for the actual story, well... It's pretty depressing haha, I feel for you Felix ;-;

Since this is UTFS, I'm sure that nothing bad will happen...right???

The entire game is incredibly polished and slick. The interface is pretty much perfectly designed to mimic a phone (and the game plays perfectly on Android), from the unlock screen to the main menu to the texting and call screens. There's a lot of care and attention to detail put in, including the little Wi-fi and battery icons, and I loved the animations as the texts came on screen.

The game takes place in text and video chats, detailing the experiences of a squad of recruits in the UTFS universe as they attend a military academy. It's a good use of O2A2's strict text limits, and despite the number of characters, you get a good idea of their personalities based on the way they speak and interact.

The art is GORGEOUS. The UI has a really slick and modern feel, and Felix's sprite is SO dang pretty. The VA also did a fantastic job, perfectly conveying the feel of a bumbling teenager trying to talk to his crush.

===SPOILER===

Despite how complex the UTFS universe is, the game does a good job of communicating the needed information so that you can understand what's occurring even if you haven't been introduced to the world and characters before. From the start, it's clear that Tamara is a little awkward with the rest of the recruits due to her status; as the story progresses, Tamara plays the role of a "team mediator" along with Felix, and it's clear how, as two of the mature ones in the room, they grow closer. Though we only see fragments, the progression of the romance feels natural. In the end, as they celebrate their graduation, you can tell how close the group has grown, and how close Tamara and Felix have gotten - making Tamara's death right after all the more tragic. I enjoyed the callback to the death of Felix's sister, showing how it affected him despite how well-adjusted he appears in the present.

I really enjoyed this! The camaraderie reminded me of the dynamic between the military squad in Re:Idealize, and the game did an excellent job of fleshing out Tamara and Felix's characters in a strict text limit. Fantastic work!
